The road from Glina to Rastoke offers a balanced driving experience. It’s long enough to feel like a proper drive but not too long to become tiring. Starting out in Glina (or Sisak), the road is a typical Croatian countryside road, but one that has several interesting characteristics.
The first one is that it is very twisty for a road that isn’t strictly a mountain road. I travel to my summer vacation by it every year, and I’m always amused by how many great corners there are – there’s even a proper hairpin corner!
The road is generally not crowded apart from the summer months when a large number of people use it to go to the coast, thus avoiding the main highway system. Drive it in April or October, and you’re in for a treat.
The best part of it is that it’s both very relaxed and challenging if your want it to be. There are a LOT of corners, the surface is mostly good, and there’s also quite a bit of elevation changes.
This route ends at Rastoke, a village known for its waterfalls where I always stop and ret when traveling to the coast – its a perfect way to end a long drive and in the summer, you can dive in for a swim in Slunjčica!
Recommended Stops
- Rastoke: Known as the “Little Plitvice,” Rastoke is famous for its waterfalls and old wooden houses. It has many holiday homes that can be rented out, but is mostly known as the gateway to the Plitvice Lakes.
